New Experienced Researcher position

COMSON (Coupled Multiscale Simulation and Optimization in Nanoelectronics) is a Marie Curie Research Training Network involving five partners from Academy (Bergische Universität Wuppertal, Politehnica University of Bucharest, Università degli Studi della Calabria, Università degli Studi di Catania, Technische Universiteit Eindhoven) and three partners from Industry (Infineon Technologies AG, Philips Electronics Nederland B.V., STMicroelectronics SRL). In COMSON, academia and industry join their efforts to realise a common Demonstrator Platform: on the one hand, to test mathematical methods and approaches, so as to assess whether they are capable of addressing the industry’s problems; on the other hand, to adequately educate young researchers by hands-on experience on state-of-the-art problems, and beyond.

Within the European Network COMSON, a Marie Curie Experienced Researcher (ER) position will be available at University of Calabria, Department of Mathematics.
The position will last 3 years, with economic conditions according to EU-standards
(see: Marie Curie Research Training Networks (RTN) - 4th edition of June 2005;
Guide to Financial Issues relating to Indirect Actions of the FP6 - edition of February 2005)

Activities
In the framework of COMSON, the appointed ER at University of Calabria will have the task of working on the design and development of the e-learning platform of the Network and of the system for spreading information among all the partners of the Project.
The system to be developed will be adaptive (intelligent) in order to encounter the formative necessities of all users. It will be endowed with an ergonomic interface based on an iconic language with multimedia elements. Furthermore the system will make use of web-based technologies of intelligent agents, as well as of all possibilities of semantic web.
The ER will help establishing the standards of the various media used in the e-learning platform, jointly with all partners and within the guidelines provided by the Coordinator of the local unit, supporting the knowledge creators and transferring the necessary know-how.
The ER will be responsible of maintaining and updating the system, including the prototypal versions. His/her tasks will be partly pursued in the sites of Project partners, according to the necessities of the Project.
The scientific activities of the ER will cover topics of “knowledge media design”, and will touch the following fields or at least some of them:
- Elements of Communication on web-based systems
- Web Design
- Usability of web sites
- Cognitive processes and man-machine interaction
- Streaming and audio-video communication in web environments
- Elements of computer graphics, 3D Java and vrml
- Design and development of multimodal interfaces
- Intelligent agents
- Design and development of semantic web

Requirements
The ideal candidate should have a PhD, preferably in Computer Science or in Multimedia Communication, interdisciplinary skills both in humanities (psychology and communication) and in technologies (computer science and telecommunications) and experience in the e-learning field.
